My Story is Available

I published my short story We Were Six. It is available as a free download on Kindle through August 25. Here’s the description:

We were six in number. We had been six for a while, all girls.

Their father is king of the faeries who live deep in the woods. The girls await his seasonal visits with wild excitement. Cast out by the faeries before her first child was born, their mother raises her daughters in town, living in constant fear that the faeries will come to steal her children from her.

In a moment of desperation, the girls venture into the forbidden woods to find their father and compel him to spend more time with them, but once they enter the forest, they might never return home.

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, I would love for you to check it out. Even after the free download period is over, it will still be available on Kindle Unlimited. The story is about 8,500 words, or about a half-hour read.

It was inspired by my interest in Irish folklore and some stories I had read about woodland faeries. The sisters have a larger presence in the book than the faeries, though. This was also my first experience writing in first person plural point of view. “We” narrate the story. Only when one of the sisters is doing something or thinking something different from the others are any of them mentioned by name.

If you do check it out, I hope you enjoy it!
