Self-Portrait: A Poem

Film grain, vintage vibes
The elegance of black and white
Songs playing in my mind
Living life in rewind
Hoping to get it right this time

Halloween and Christmas lights
Glitter and neon to keep it bright
Finding myself in lines I write
On quiet nights by candlelight
Full of contradictions--the story of my life

Unassuming, painfully polite
My black nail polish feels like a disguise
But it's a sign, a wink of a green eye
A clue that I have an edge inside
That a first glance wouldn't recognize
